Review:
I really don't know how I should feel right now....should I cry my eyes out because it's over and I have to wait until May/June for the next book, or should I be happy and content that I got a little bit of a Dex fix to help hold over my addiction? I'm going with crying, lol. I can't believe its already over....and that it was that fast! I swear, I need to learn how to read slower and savor a little more than I do. If I did, I wouldn't be in this predicament!

Honestly, I really don't know how to control myself when it comes to Dex. He's....well....he's DEX! Anyone that has read this series, knows what I'm talking about. There is just no getting around the obsession that is Dex. This novella just makes the obsession 10 times worse! From chapter 1 my heart was breaking for Dex. He is 10 times more swoon-worthy because of this novella.

I'm not going to go into much of what the book is exactly about, we have all read the series so you know what it's about, this is just all the view of the master mind himself.

The book starts the day after Perry left Seattle. We experience the turmoil that Dex went through. We get to find out exactly how much of a bitch Jen really is (even though we kind of already knew), we see what a great friend Rachel is and learn about how Dex becomes the new hotter version of Dex that we meet in Into the Hollow (ahhhh, just thinking about it....yummy!!). Oh, and we get his thoughts on the whole Perry Maximus thing---flannel coated pussy stealer.

This was the perfect book to hold me over until the next book of the series. Really, if you are in a Dex funk and need a Dex fix now....get it! Don't hold back. Let your heart break just a little more for Dex and then fall in love with him all over again.

Oh, and let's not forget my favorite part.

Perry had slept with Maximus. He stuck his dick in her. I was going to be sick. I was going to cry. Oh, wait. No, I was going to BEAT THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF HIM!

When it comes to Karina Halle I am a total fangirl. I know I get a giddy about a lot of authors, but when it comes down to my favorite, Karina is it for me! Being a part of this tour was a huge deal to me.

Sins & Needles is remarkable! As with all of Karina’s books, I was hooked from line 1. I can’t explain it….something about her writing style is just so phenomenal. Her stories are always fresh, like nothing I have ever read before. The actions of the characters are so put together, it flows perfectly and everything that happens in the books is for a reason. It’s not like oh hey, let’s get a tattoo together…everything that happens, happens for a reason.

Ellie Watt is always on the run. She is a con artist if I never heard of one, lol. She always keeps a spare life in her trunk. Spare clothes, driver’s license social security cards…you name it, she has it. Her most recent con sends her running back to the place she has tried to avoid for so many years, and she is finally herself again.

I was Ellie Watt again. I was finally me. Oh, joy.

The life that Ellie is living is one she has known her whole life. He parents were cons and they taught her how to be one too. You are what you see, right? About the Author:

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find herself and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. I have a lot of book addictions, I didn't think I could possibly handle anymore, but damnit if EIT has not taken over my life!! I started the series last month and have been completely engulfed in the story since.

Let's just say the Into the Hollow did not disappoint. It was everything I hoped and totally helped out with my MAJOR Dex funk. I swear, I have been in the funk for a few weeks, nothing can take the place of EIT, nothing comes close. I have read several books between EIT #5 and EIT #6 and have just been skimming through them to finish. Nothing holds a candle to EIT. I have been broken for all other books and YOU did this to me Karina!!

You know how we see the badges all over that say things like "Yes, I know he's not real..." and "I'm in love with a fictional character..." I think we need to make one that says "Yes, I know she isn't real, but I'm about the beat this idiot's ass!" That was exactly how I felt at one point in this book. I didn't think it was possible for me to hate anyone more than I hated Kiera (From Thoughtless) but I'll be damned if I didn't want to kick some Perry Palomino ass!!

Me-  DYING inside lol. I am almost finished. About 75%. I just started this afternoon. I can't put it down. I am ALL about some Dex!

Needless to say, I was TERRIFIED!!! I know something can and WILL always go wrong!! BUT, keep in mind, that may not always be the case, so I won't let you in on mine and Megan's reaction to 80%, lol just know that there may or may not be some disturbing, threatening comments on goodreads, lol.

My love hate relationship with Dex and Perry has been confirmed for some time now, this book just intensified my love and hate. So, where to start with what the book is about.....without giving too much away....

It's Dex and Perry together again at last!!!! But not really like you think, I mean really, could you forgive someone that broke your heart like that? (hehe, which one am I referring too, they kinda broke each other).

I closed my eyes and a warm tear ran slowly down my cheek.

“Perry,” he said again, softer. His fingers tightened. “Baby, please.”

That word was like a nail into my chest. My reaction was instinctive.

I whirled around at him, my eyes aflame and throwing as much venom as possible.

“You don’t get to call me that anymore,” I spat at him. “I am not that to you. I never was.”
 But to make a long story short and to allow you the bonding experience of Dex and Perry again, I'm just gonna say, it's Dex and Perry again....and they're doing what???? Trying their hand at EIT again, of course! Sasquatch is on the loose, lol. He has been sighted in Canada and Perry is feeling kinda safe about it because he's not real, right? I mean, no demons, no ghost, should be smooth sailing...
except everything is against them, as always. Horrible weather, crazy man with a gun and rambling hands....llamas getting their heads sliced off....YIKES!!

Oh, and of course Dex has to go and steal my heart even more--multiple times. I swear, I can hardly breathe. I miss them both so much already!! I love Dex and Perry too! I want to BE Perry, lol well maybe let's skip on the almost getting killed all the time...but you know what I mean.

EIT---always a 5 star from me!

The Devil's Metal

Can something be beautiful and creepy all at the same time? I think so! If you want something to read that doesn't really have to do with romance, but still has that chemistry there, you need to read this! This is a rockstar book, but not our typical rockstar read. We get the whole band vibe with the groupies, fans, drugs and drinking minus the romantic angst. I was hooked from the moment I saw the 1st musical reference. My husband is a metal head and I like to think of myself as one too (just maybe not as extreme, lol).

 

I have been in a MAJOR Dex funk for the past few weeks, since I finished the Experiment in Terror Series by Karina Halle. I think I am finally moving on (for real this time!). Everything about this book kept me wanting more and more. I had to know what was going on, I had to know what was going to happen next. I stayed on the edge of my seat of 2 days reading. Normally, I can read pretty fast, but I didn't want to miss a second of anything that was going to happen.

The setting is in 1974. I wasn't worried about that all because I know that most kick ass music comes from the 60's and 70's. if you are worried about the time setting, don't be. You really don't notice that the book is set in the 70's until you get a glimpse of the wardrobe, or some of the lingo and the band/song references.

I was stoked that Karina used actual things that could have happened in 1974. there is a point in the book when our heroine is offered a ride from a handsome man named Ted, I was scared for her because I thought she was going to accept the ride and I was like NOOOO DON'T GET IN THE CAR WITH TED BUNDY!!!

Dawn, our heroine is a huge music addict. She writes concert reviews for local magazines until she is scouted by a major magazine. They want her to go on the road with her favorite band (every girls dream, right!?).

Of course she takes the job, only and idiot wouldn't. But then she realizes she may be over her head, she hasn't the slightest idea what to do and she is overwhelmed by the band:There is Graham, the creepy satanic drummer, Noelle the bassist who instantly hates Dawn and thinks she is just a groupie, lead singer Robbie who flirts with her, Noelle's boyfriend Mickey who seems to be okay and then there is Sage....who seems to hate the idea of having a journalist on the tour and is instantaneously rude to Dawn.



After meeting everyone and getting settled in Dawn starts to feel a little better, that is until things take a turn for the creepy. She starts to see things that shouldnt be there and feel unplesantly eerie activity.

I felt horror, a terror so complete that I had one thought: I was going to die there on the stage. I was going to lose my soul.

I was going to Hell.



The anxiety and depth of the story....uhhg I'm still thinking about it! There is so much that lies within in this book it would take me forever to tell you about it. I'm sure my husband is more confused now, after I attempted to tell him the entire book than he has ever been before, lol.

Oh, and let's not forget my major freak out moment near the end of the book:

Me to Ashley: OMG! OMG! OMG!!! The Devil's Metal kinda ties in with EIT!!! Just a little, no Dex or Perry or anything like that but they have something similar and that's all I'm gonna say, lol.  



Even if only for the musical remarks alone, 5 stars all the way! Karina has me hooked again.

Uhhgggg!!! My heart hurts sooo bad right now! I mean, really, really hurts almost to the point that I can’t breath!! Book 4 was going along so well, it was wonderful and I was just like yes! Something is finally going to happen….man, man, man…I can’t say anything, just that I was hurting pretty bad after I finished book 4 and I’m still hurting. I had to immediately start book 5 and have read about 20% and it still isn’t any better!! Why do I do this to myself!!?? I should just stick to nursery rhymes and kiddie books; I don’t have to worry about them playing with my emotions!!

Late night text with Ashley:

Me:Oh man, my heart, my heart. EIT is killing me!!
Ashley: oh no!!! just breathe hee hee whooo hee hee whoo.
Me: lol, man I can't wait for you to read it!!!
Me: Oh man, it hurts so bad!! I mean, almost Kellan bad!!
Ashley: OMG Paul Hudson bad?
Me: Oh no, I don't think anything can ever be that bad, lol
Ashley: lol, what book are you on?
Me: I just finished 4 and I'm, going straight to 5. No break in between, I may die from heartache if I take a break, lol.
Ashley: oh Lord!!

So yea...it was a pretty intense night for me, lol.

Perry and Dex have a project in Seattle to film, and since they also have the Shownet Christmas party  to attend Dex invites her to stay with him and Jenn….all well….kinda a yay moment because of Dex but then we remember that Jenn will be there too…..ewww ….so we have lovey dovie Dex and Jenn all in our face!!

Jenn let out a cry of flirty disgust and slapped Dex on his ass. He jumped a bit, pretending it hurt, and grinned at her. A grin I used to think was reserved solely for me.

OK. This was hell. I know what I had imagined earlier but now that I was actually seeing it, it was causing narrowing of the yes. It wasn’t jealousy so much (OK, it was), it was that feeling that Dex knew how I felt about him and yet, here they were… it was uncomfortable to say the least.

This book was by far my favorite of the series. It seems almost too real, and too relatable. All of the situations our characters are faced with are definitely possible in real life….especially Perry having to choke it up and just deal with Dex and Jenn….(man I still hate Jenn!!).

And the tension in the apartment! Dex and Jenn moved into a new apartment and got a dog together…as freaking dog!! I mean really!! So here poor Perry is stuck for a week with perfect Jenn and a warning from her uncle that she is setting herself up for heartache. She promises herself she will make it out of Seattle without shedding a single tear. I’m thinking Dex is getting a little lost being stuck with Perry and Jenn at the same time and he doesn’t know what to do….well in the beginning….

Anyway, I really can’t talk anymore about this…I HAVE to get back to book 5 and find out what in the HELL is going on!!

This may be considered more of a paranormal series than a romance series, but with the tension and the love I have for Dex, I don’t care what anyone says…I’m smushing them together and it’s gonna be a paranormal romance, so there!

So far, my favorite book of the series. I still can’t grasp exactly what it is that is luring me to these books. I am just so hooked! Why haven’t I read them before now, I read the first one months ago and could really beat myself in the head for not reading the rest of the series sooner.

I was so excited when I started book 3 and found out that Perry and Dex would have to spend a few days on a deserted island ALONE! Perry is of course still secretly in love with Dex and she hates herself for it.

But really, how horrible can it be? Staying on an island, alone, in the middle of now where with hardly any communication to the outside world with the man that you love….well there is still Jenn in the picture (stupid, stupid Jenn! Just get killed off like in a soap opera or something! Lol)

Oh, and Jenn is really not happy with Dex and Perry going on this little expedition

I was getting the distinct impression that Jenn was a touchy subject this weekend, though I wasn’t sure why. Maybe they had a fight or something. I can’t say that didn’t tickle the back of my head in a delightful way.

Not to mention that Dex remains his witty self about the whole situation

No, I mean, are you worried about being with me,” he said, straightening and flicking the cigarette overboard, ever though there was a cigarette disposal unit behind us. “On the island. Alone. With me.”

Before the duo depart to the island Dex invites Perry to come up a day early so they can spend time together, I mean hey, that’s what friends do right? They hang out…. So Dex and Perry go to a hockey game, Dex is very distant and then receives a phone call, from who? We don’t know until later….but after the call he is REALLY distant and won’t tell Perry anything about the call. How does he cope with his feelings? He decides they need to go to a strip club! A strip club! Really, Dex? (tehehe)

So, the next day after getting a boat from Dex’s friend they head to the island (I will repeat, ALONE). The island is full of sticky situations (hehehe, really, once you read you will know what I’m talking about…). From heartfelt moments & intense conversations to full fledge screaming at the top of your lungs and beating Dex in the face during some kind of temper tantrum (the island is really messing with their heads).  

Oh, and let’s not forget that this book FREAKED ME OUT! Did I mention the island they are staying on used to be a leper colony! I mean really! 100’s of people died on this island and campers have talked about hearing things at night, no one goes to the island anymore because there seems to always be something that goes wrong to prevent you from leaving the island—oh and Perry keeps seeing ghosts kids….(ahhh freaky!!)

OH! And there are 2 HUGE freak out moments in the book! Well, maybe more than 2....but definitely at least 2 freak out moments for me! I can’t wait for someone else to read it! I know your gonna love it, and really I need to have a few discussions about this one. I neeeeedddd someone to talk to after this!!

I can say at this point I am uber obsessed with this series! I have to stop myself from reading so far ahead and come back to blog so I can keep a clean mind and not blur the lines between the books….it’s so hard to do! I mean really, all I am thinking about right now is getting back to book 3 to find out what is happening to Perry and Dex on the island…..(what you say??? Yes, they are ALONE on an entire island!!)…but to get to that I have to get this review posted 1^st! so here we go!!

So far the series is pretty creepy, but we love that right? As far as I can tell the creepiness continues (I am on book 3, and there is a 2.5 between 2 and 3….awesome right!?) Along with the creepiness we get to continue with the tension between Dex and Perry. We also get to learn some of Dex’s past and see into Perry’s mind…oh and let’s not forget that her parents still think she is working at the advertising agency, so that’s pretty fun with her fake working everyday.

Sooooo, what could go wrong? Perry and Dex doing a little ghost hunting, they are forced to play husband and wife for this new adventure; they even have to sleep in the same bed. Sounds perfect, right? WRONG!! Jenn is still in the picture…and Perry still hates her, even though she doesn’t really know her…it’s kind of sick and twisted (jealous much? lol) if you think about it, lol….

I think Jennifer got under my skin because she represented everything that I wasn’t. She was a successful host. She was tall, thin, gorgeous, and exuded this glowing sexuality that I couldn’t possibly fake in a million years. I had the feeling she was one of this types who never had ago work a day in their life and people were always bending over just to wipe her ass. She probably shit gold, too.

She embodied everything I hated and everything I wasn’t – yet in the back of my mind, she was something I strived to be. How sick was that?

 ….so PLAY husband and wife is all they will be doing……but something does happen, something spectacular that Perry is still talking about in book 3!!! (not gonna tell ya!!)

I finally found my Perry!

In book 2 Perry and Dex take on a new adventure for the newest episode of EIT. Maximus, Dex’s old college friend and ex-band mate (makes me love him more!!! He was in a band!!!) contacts him to come to a ranch in New Mexico that is experiencing some pretty wicked stuff, animals be ripped apart, rocks flying at the house when no one is throwing them.... The family they are going to be staying with are  devout Christians (and the wife is a bit CRAZY)…..hence why Dex and Perry pretend to be married….tehehehe.

We get to see more of Dex's feelings for Perry. I won't say that he is in love with her, but you can tell he definitely cares for her. He tells her over and over that he will protect her from anything (ahg how sweet!!)

You will not have a moment to be bored with this one. There are so many strange occurrences going on, the sexual tensions with Perry and Dex, the hidden feelings that I think are there, Jenn still in the background and this new guy, Maximus…seems to me like he has the hots for Perry and I don’t think Dex likes it one bit!

Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror #1)

This was a freebie I picked up a while back. I read it several months ago and wasn’t blogging then so there was no need for a review, lol. I have recently started on reading the rest of the series (wonderful series if I might add!) and figured I can’t start with reviews on number 2 without reviewing book 1 first!

This book is still free, so you have no excuse to not get it and try it out! I am soooo hooked on this series! I read books 2 and 2.5 (which is free also!) last night, I can’t seem to get enough Perry and Dex. I swear, I want to be just like them!

Some will say this is a spooky series, and I’m sure it is to the normal person, but I am a complete weirdo so I just LOVE it! Along with the spookiness of the series, you also have MAJOR sexual tension between Perry and Dex. Perry thinks she has a weight problem (which she does not!) She was heavy in high school and has sense lost a  lot of weight but still feels like a big girl. Dex is just…well he is Dex. He is witty and sarcastic and can have a sharp tongue. He also doesn’t really know how to open up about his thoughts and feelings. So the combinations of them both being attractive, along with Perry’s messed up self image and Dex’s problems opening up causes serious issues between the two (Oh, and let’s not forget Dex’s obnoxious, annoying, infuriating personality!).

I am still searching for Perry.

So, on to the storyline (side note, I am seriously in love with Dex, despite his issues, lol). Perry, our heroine is a metal head (ahhhh! Love it!) She wears black clothing, is into the indie scene and listens to metal. She is far from bright and bubbly like her younger sister. While her family is visiting her uncle she decides to explore and old lighthouse. She is way creeped out by it, but can’t help but be drawn to it at the same time. This is where she meets Dex. He decided to break into the lighthouse to do some filming, hoping to catch something paranormal for his internet TV show.

Perry and Dex definitely experience some spooky shit while in the lighthouse. Perry catches clips on her phone, and Dex gets some pretty raw footage too. Over the next few days Perry blogs about her lighthouse experience and gets loads of hits when she loads her footage on Youtube. Dex gets up with Perry to ask her to work with him on the new internet series he has decided to start. Perry jumps at the adventure (she is super tired of her boring, receptionist job and needs something to fulfill her life).

So the adventure starts. Perry and Dex return to her uncles house so they can begin filming for the new paranormal show (This show blows Ghost Hunters out of the water!....well, if EIT was a real show it would, lol). They encounter butt loads of creepy stuff and build a friendship that is full of secrets and mystery. Not to mention the attraction they have for each other, but remember the friendship is built on secrets so of course they won’t admit anything to one another!

So, anyone that reads my reviews knows I NEVER post this much! So, obviously I am seriously addicted to this series! What is happening to me! I don’t need anymore addictions!!
