UnBeautifully by Madeline Sheehan

Warning: This is not a story about fate or destiny. This is a story about pain, sorrow, and suffering. This is an impulsive whirlwind romance between two lovers that are not meant to be together. Theirs is not a world with sunshine and roses. Instead, their love blossoms in a secret world full of crime, violence, and death. Their story is about what can be born from nightmares.

Danielle “Danny” West is the daughter of Deuce West, President of the Hell’s Horsemen Motorcycle Club. A sweet and beautiful girl, she loses her way, searching for things that are always out of her reach. Erik “Ripper” Jacobs is the Sergeant of Arms in the Hell’s Horsemen. Once a man who always had a smile on his face, his life takes a turn for the worst when a tragedy befalls him, leaving him scarred and broken. During a midsummer night, Danny and Ripper’s paths cross, forever changing their lives. Hastily, their lust turns to love until another tragedy forces them apart. On a journey that is marred with ugliness and chaos, Danny and Ripper must discover if their unforeseen connection can find the beauty in their world.

This is Danny and Ripper’s story.

Everything has beauty. Even the ugly. Especially the ugly.
Because without ugly, there would be no beauty.

Review:
Let me just start off by saying W.T.F!! Did Madeline Sheehan just mind fuck me and rock my world? And what was that?....I loved it AND I'm begging for more! Why yes, yes she did and True Story, I am begging for MORE!!!  This book had me all jacked up mentally and emotionally. Hell I'm all over the damn place with this one. I've had to wait a few days just to form a coherent thought to write this review. I mean I knew I was going to LOVE Ripper, I loved him in Undeniable, but then that dirty whore Madeline had to throw in more Deuce and Eva, and well there are just no words for how I feel about that man.

What Madeline Sheehan does with words is what Van Gogh does with paint, what Jimi Hendrix done with a guitar. Hell she's the Quentin Tarantino of books. It's real, raw beauty. It's breath taking art at it's finest. It's not that care bears and rainbows B.S. you read in fairytales when you were a kid. No, she's real life, she's hardcore and she writes about the effed up things in life people don't want to deal with.
And sometimes love is unconventional and it breaks all the rules and blurs all the lines and basks in its glory. Shining as bright as the sun, unapologetically glowing even under the narrowed stares of society and its screaming, self-righteous morals, berating and judging that which it doesn't understand.
The story of Ripper and Danny. The story of a broken man hiding inside himself hate, disgust and shame. Torturing himself with a past that can't be undone and a future he wants but thinks he doesn't deserve. The story of a girl, a beautiful girl that was once filled with life and dreams that has been beaten down by that same life, by others decisions. A girl that had to grow up too fast, who wants something, needs something that someone else thinks she can't have.

Not only do we get Ripper and Danny's story, but we get a look into Deuce and Eva's life after Frankie and OMG...if you thought you loved Deuce in Undeniable you haven't read anything yet. Oh, and we get more from crazy ass Cox and Kami. I love them together, they crack me up. Here's a sneak peak of what to expect from those two.
"Cox!" Kami screamed, stalking into the room. "Shut your stupid Mexican mouth!" Cox glared at her. "Bitch, I'm Puerto Rican!" She waved her hand dismissively. "Whatever. Don't you have some lawns to mow?"
"I'm Puerto fuckin' Rican!"
"What! Ever!"
"Bitch! Don't you got some rich boy cock you need to suck off for a new pair a fuckin' shoes?"
"Fuck you!"
"No, bitch fuck you! I'm fuckin' Puerto Rican! Say it, Kami, say Puerto Rican!"
"No!"
"Say it!"
"American Indian!"
There is never a dull moment with those two. Madeline also introduces us to a few newbies and I won't give you any details on them because I don't want to spoil any of the crazy ass drama that goes on in the Hells Horseman MC and believe me it can get WILD!

Review:
I finished book one Dark Poison and went straight into reading this book so to say I was a little pissed off is an understatement. I was pissed at Willow for just running away at the first sign of trouble and I was pissed at Jagger for not seeing the Sharleen was up to something. I mean it's weird the way she just came back after all this time just when things are looking up for Jagger. Well in this book, I'm proud of Willow, after she sorts things out she decides to fight for her man and Sharleen is not having it. I do not like Sharleen, she is two faced and snotty and skanky. It's easier to connect with Willow and Jagger in this book instead of just having a captor and captive relationship like in book one, their relationship grows as an actual couple. We are introduced to a few more characters in this book that just enhance the story line and what a story line it is. This series just gets better and better. The HOT alpha males, the STEAMY sex, the banter between all of the characters and I LOVE the twists that the story takes. Just when I think I had something figured out BAM..it changes!! This book was probably my favorite out of the series.

Review: Eyes Wide Open (The Blackstone Affair, Book 3) by Raine Miller

I liked Eyes Wide Open, but I wasn’t in love with it. I’m glad that we got a continuation of Ethan and Brynne’s story, I just wish there would have been more to it. I felt like a lot of stuff was very repetitive and the same love scenes from books 1 and 2 were just added to make this book longer. Aside from that, I still enjoyed it; I just had to do a little skimming over things that bored me.

I can’t explain too much what it was exactly that seems repetitive and rushed, because that would give us a spoiler review. I will just say that it seems every book at the moment is coming out with the same scenario and we need something different. I am tired of the fast paced love, the rich guy and the broken girl. It is just becoming too much.

Another thing that bothered me so much with this book...the sex scenes. I swear there was sex in every chapter. I love a good, steamy, hot sex scene, but I don’t need it every 5 minutes. It took away from the story that we so desperately needed. The times Ethan and Brynne were “doing it” we could have been getting a little more insight on Ethan’s nightmares or the new situation that Brynne is in. We already know they have hot sex from books 1 and 2. Sure throw a little steam in the book, but don’t overload the reader. That kind of killed it for me.  I really another book. I can’t say that I will jump on the next book as fast as I did this one. I waited and waited on this book to come out, and when it did, I was just kind of disappointed. Something was just missing. It didn’t hit the spot for me like the others in the series.

Aside from my rant above about what I didn’t like. There are still things that I did like.

We finally get to learn about Ethan’s story. We find out what happened in the war, where his scars come from and a little about his nightmare. He opened up to Brynne about this, but not as much as I would have liked to see him open up.

This book is also from both POV’s which really helped add to the story. We know right away what the other party is thinking and we don’t have to wait around like we would if it was just in one person’s POV.

We get to see a different side of Ethan in this book as well. Not just what his nightmares are about, but we also meet some of his family and see how he is with his niece. He is just too sweet and the way he is with the child makes me swoon for him more.

There is a slight twist to the story, but honestly, I saw it coming. It still adds to the building drama that we so desperately want and need, but I knew it was going to happen, It always does, lol.

Just because I didn’t like the book like I thought I would does not change how I feel about Ethan, lol. I am still hooked on him. He possesses many different qualities. He is sweet yet demanding, quiet yet brooding and can steal a room. I love the Alpha-ness he possesses and the way he take charge, especially when it comes to Brynne.

The ending left me a bit unsatisfied with the story. I still felt like I needed something more. Other readers have been content with the ending, and that is fine too, we cant all like the same thing. I’m just glad to know that there will be a 4th book released later this year, hopefully that will give me the closure I need.

3.5 stars.

She was gorgeous and fucking sexy as sin in that tight white mini dress and sky high fuck-me heels. I instantly have an image of that that dress on my floor and her tan legs wrapped around my hips, shaking uncontrollably as she screams my name. The bitch look she was giving me said fucking was the last thing she wanted to do with me and I couldn’t help but smirk. She didn’t have a clue that she was my angel.

EIT Challenge- Darkhouse (Book 1) by Karina Halle

I am a few weeks behind on the EIT reading challenge, but I promise I have a very good reason. You see I am about...oh, 5 months pregnant and have been crazy off my ass for the last few months. The fatigue is finally wearing off and I feel like I am getting back to my normal self again, so rest assured, I will not slack again, lol.

So, how does the Experiment in Terror reading challenge work? Over a 6 weeks period all of the current books in EIT will be read and put on tour. To the veterans, why not read them again, I mean come on, THEY ARE THE BEST! And to the newbies, really, why not give it a try? Book 1 is free and the challenge isn't so far gone that you can't catch up. I say, give it a go if you haven't already. Now, we all have an excellent reason to re-read the best series ever, get some new followers hooked on the series and talk, talk, talk about all the things that are happening in each book and what we hope to see in the books to come.

Not only is this challenge going to be a fun one, it will also be rewarding. Filled with different prizes and awesome insight on the series from awesome fellow bloggers. Be sure to check out the official post (here) that invites you to join the challenge and also enter the giveaways at the blogs participating in the tour.

Now that I am finished ranting on why you need to experience my favorite book series, I can talk about my re-read session.

I NEVER read a book twice, let alone an entire series, but when I saw that so many others are joining the EIT Reading Challenge I decided to join in. Let me start by saying that I was not disappointed! People watch movies over and over, how is reading a book again any different? It isn't! While re-reading Darkhouse I was able to come to terms with myself and realize I have an addiction. A serious, serious addiction. I just can't imagine my life without Dex and Perry....pathetic, I know...but so true!

I originally read Darkhouse before I started blogging, so probably May 2012. I added a review later to the blog. Here is it. I'm going to add a few things to this post that popped at me while reading again. It's so awesome how you can read something again, especially something you love, and find new things and get new feelings. Plus,  all of my old feelings came rushing back in and I am in full fledge Dex mode again.

Things We Learn in Darkhouse:
  • Perry has kickass taste in music.
  • Perry is an awesome dresser by my standards
  • Dex is a smart ass
  • The Errol Flynn "stache is coming back in style
  • Perry's mom is kind of a douche
  • Dex's birthday- August 18
  • Dex can sing and he was in a band.... Sin Sing Sinatra
  • Oh, and Jen obviously cares nothing about Dex
Per Karina Halle "If you were ever wondering what Sin Sing Sinatra looked like back in Dex and Maximus's college days...I think the band would look like THIS (I am amazed at this photo, btw...Kyuss rules)"

Dex and Perry Meet:
"Who are you?"
The man didn't say anything. His silhouette started to rock back and forth slightly.
"That depends on who you are," he said simply.
Hell, even I didn't know who I was right now. I shook my head.
"I asked you first."
He signed and reached back into his picket. He fished out a business card and handed it to me. He picked up his camera and shone it on the black paper.
"Dex Foray," I read the shiny white print aloud. "Producer, cameraman, cinematographer. Shownet."

Later...Perry Freak Out:
"You'd best stay with me," he said.
I couldn't believe it. Part of me wanted to stay with him for some reason, but the rational part knew that "some reason" wasn't good enough.
I shook my head violently. "You? I don't know who the fuck you are. You give me a business card? I'm not going to be part of your rapist tower."

Book Playlist:
I rolled my eyes and got out of bed feeling self- conscious with my thunder things rolling beneath by long Bad Religion T-shirt that doubled as a nightgown.

"Oh, whatever Mom," said Ada, who was dressed sensibly in pastel skinny jeans, ballet flats and a black furry vest over a shrunken Alice in Chains T- shirt (which was my shirt, of course. Like she knew who AIC was).

Radiohead's OK Computer was playing on my iPod and lulling me into a sort of dreamland, blurring reality.

I considered writing a little blurb about my experiences as a failed stuntwoman, or maybe about one of my favorite bands, Slayer.

He flipped his MP3 player on. To my surprise, Billy Joel can on. "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" to be precise. Dex began to sing along.

After twenty minutes of being way too aware of Dex's body beneath me and his hot breath at the nape of my neck and being subjected to nonstop Nickleback courtesy of the twins God-awful CD player, we finally rolled info a shoddy-looking marina littered with half-abandoned fishing trawlers and stacks of rotting crates. (I refuse to link Nickleback. Just thinking of looking up their music makes my skin crawl, lol)

I felt like we were headed into battle. I could almost hear dramatic WWII music in my head. That, and the theme song from The Matrix.

I was going to look like Yoko Ono at my meeting. I hoped Frida wasn't a Beatles fan.

We didn't speak for about ten minutes. I could hear  Elton John singing "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" very quietly from the speakers; I found the lyrics to be especially poignant.

"Scenes From and Italian Restaurant" faintly playing from the speakers, which immediately reminded me of his sing along session in the car yesterday. Felt so long ago. I must have smiled involuntarily because he handed me my bag from behind the seat and said, "Want me to start singing again? I'll sing you the whole CD. 'My Life', 'Piano Man', 'She's Always a Woman'..."

"Because sometimes I lie, Perry. We all lie, even you, but not everyone is brave enough to admit it."

Excerpt:
About an hour later, there was a knock at the door. I got off my bed, went to open the door and found Dominic leaning against the wall across from my door.
I was furious. "What in hell took you so long? I thought you would have been here hours ago?"
He was standing there, looking at me as if I was crazy and being unreasonable. "Can I just come in, and we can talk?"
I walked back in my room, and he followed behind me. "Just be quiet. Hailey isn't feeling good. She had too much to drink."
"You couldn't put her in her own damn room? I haven't seen you in two weeks, MacKenzie."
I shook my head, "No, I couldn't. Hunter is in the spare room, and you know I always share this room with Hailey and Jaylinn."
Cocking his head at me, he asked, "Why are you being such a bitch? It was just a question. I drove all this way just to see you; you could have at least made sure we had our own room."
"You know what Dominic? Just leave. I don't even know why you bothered to show up this late. You didn't have practice today, so there is no excuse for why you were late."
He grabbed the bag he had left by the door. "Fine. I don't know why I bothered to drive hours just to come to this stupid ass party anyway." He walked out the door, and slammed it shut.
Hailey walked out of the bathroom, shaking her head. "I don't know why you stay with that asshat, Kenzie."
"He never used to be like that."

Excerpt:
Erin Gets Her Happy Dance On…

I’m walking in a daze.
I think I’m going to pass out. Whoa! What just happened out there? The most gorgeous, successful, beautifully arrogant man ever just kissed my hand. My best friend, Selene is going to hate me for being so lucky. I can’t wait to tell her.
“Alright, chill out, Cinderella.” I walk through my door and let all the pretense, aka Miss Control USA, go flying out the window. I hop right up in the middle of my living room floor and start doing my hot damn dance.
So, yeah, Alek’s statement about the prelude freaked me out for a second. The word reminded me of something Jada used to say. His line was just the tiniest bit corny, too. But I meant what I said when I told him I thought his words were cute. He can say anything with that accent and get away with it.
I glance at my watch. 10p.m. It’s too early to call Selene. She works as a bartender in Florence. Sometimes her nights don’t end until around 2am.
I sniff the contract Alek gave me. His scent still lingers on the paper, reminding me of the day I first experienced the scent of his cologne. That was the day I fell on my butt, and he offered me his jacket to cover my body. He’s a true gentleman. Well, maybe a little.
So what if the gesture came after I had bolted for the door because he was looking me up and down at first. I feel myself forgiving his neglect to inform me of his true identity. He’s yet to explain himself. I consider agreeing to meet him for dinner just so he can tell me why he led me to believe he was an assistant.
I shower and throw on my Betty Boop sleeping shirt, a pair of booties, and then try to bring my racing thoughts back under control. Heading to my bedroom, I lie down on the bed and pull out a romance novel Selene let me borrow.
She thinks I’m destined to become either a nun or a homicidal maniac. Her reasoning being that no normal person goes without sex as long as I have done. Selene’s boyfriend and my old design lab partner from school, Christopher, even chimed in to help drill the thought into me one day when the two of them visited. I study the book in my hands.
This just doesn’t seem right. Erin Angelo is pulling out a romance novel and actually considering reading it. Now I know something’s wrong with me.
