The Artist Trilogy by Karina Halle Reading Order

I am so in love with the first book of the series! I cannot wait for the rest of the books to come out. Karina has me hooked, yet again, on another of her series! Why does she keep doing this to me!!!!

About book 1:
Ellie Watt is used to starting over. The daughter of a grifting team, Ellie spent her childhood being used as a pawn in her parents' latest scam. Now she’s much older, wiser and ready to give her con artist life a rest. But returning to the dry desert town of Palm Valley, California means one more temptation than she bargained for – Camden McQueen. Once known as the high school weirdo, Camden is bigger and badder than the boy he used to be and a talented tattoo artist with his own thriving business. Ellie’s counting on Camden still being in love with her but what she’s not counting on is how easily unrequited love can turn into obsession over time. When Camden discovers Ellie’s plan to con him, he makes her a deal she doesn’t dare refuse, but her freedom comes with a price and it’s one that takes both Ellie and Camden down a dangerous road.

  • Sins & Needles (book 1)
  • On Every Street (book .5)--this one is coming out after book 1, so I'm not sure if you should read it first based on the release dates, or if it matters which one you read first...
  • Shooting Scars (book 2)There are a few things worth risking everything for - even your life. For Camden McQueen, this is one of them.Shooting Scars is the second book in The Artists Trilogy and is told from the dual POV of Camden and Ellie.
  • Book 3 coming soon! lol This is all I could dig up online.

Review:
I’m not sure what I expected when I started reading this book, but I know that I got way more than I expected. This book is raw and real. It’s not for one with a soft heart. Emily didn’t hold back on this book. She didn’t try to pretty things up to seem as something they weren’t. She kept the situations real and hardcore. There is nothing pretty about this book…..that is what kept me glued to it all afternoon.

If I had known how dumb I was at eighteen, I would have run back to the safety of my parent's house screaming to escape from myself.

Grace is a normal teenage girl. She goes off to college and has had a few experiments with marijuana and alcohol, but nothing like the hard stuff she is about to be introduced to.

One Halloween night my life changed forever. I know now that this was a turning point in my life, a particularly dangerous one.

Grayson is Grace’s boyfriend. He used to be sweet and he cared for Grace, but something has changed in him. He is angry all of the time and doesn’t care about anything but partying. When Grace starts working for the same hotel that he works for she meets some of his new friends. This is the start of the turning point in her life.

At this point I wanted to scream for Grace, to warn her that these are the kind of people your mother warned you about as a child.

Miranda becomes her best friend. They work together at the hotel. Miranda has an awesome figure…

“I am not usually hungry.” I took in her small frame and her giant pupils. “I like to do something that keeps me from it.”

I was naive at this point and Grayson explained to me later that she enjoyed a drug called crystal meth.

This is some of the first exposure to hard drugs that sweet Grace has had. The night finally comes when Miranda and Grayson talk her into joining them…(again! I wanted to help this girl! I wanted to tell her no, I have been down the path she is about to go on and I wanted nothing more than to stop her)

When it was my turn, I remember thinking. Something is about to happen, but I had no idea where the feeling came from. I was pretty drunk and the world seemed safe. As I snorted the first thing I had ever tried to put up my nose, I immediately noticed how badly it hurt. It burned like it was trying to take my nose off my face. I thought, This is a mistake, it is never going to stop burning.

And then it hits her….

I knew two things; I wanted more and Grayson was a lying sack who had used meth before last night.

We get to go through the rest of the book following Grace’s ups and downs. We see her mistakes…all of the mistakes. The girl she should be is still hidden somewhere beneath the cloth, but the drugs are so strong she may never resurface.

The ending snuck up on me. I was so involved with the story I didn’t think the end would come so soon. Please, Emily… let there be a 2nd book! I need a 2nd book. I’ve grown too accustomed to lovey, dovey stories that are painted pretty. Every once in a while we all need a little ugly; to remind us of the world that we try to ignore.

On a side note:
There are a few typos, but that doesn’t bother me, I can usually look over them. Oh, and music! I think this needs more music! When I think of partying I think music should be involved, music that will depict the situation and give us more of a feeling of what the characters are experiencing at the moment.

Excerpt 1
“You’re too young for a New Year’s Eve party. You knew the answer before asking.” Mia flipped on her turn signal to move over a lane. “What Ash?” Her sullen teenage daughter muttered under her breath and turned away, closing off. Teenage angst—her least favorite part of parenting. What kind of parent lets their kid plan an unchaperoned party on one of the worst nights of the year to be away from home? Remember not to judge others by what you wouldn’t do.Paying her daughter no heed, she cast quick glance in her rearview mirror to find a spot she could edge her way into in the next lane. Mia moved her SUV in the tight space, continuing the slow crawl down highway 71. She refused to feel guilty for not giving into Ashland’s wants, reminding herself to be a parent not a friend. There wasn’t room for both, since she took on the roll as both mother and father.

As the light at the end of the exit ramp turned from yellow to red, a car clipped her back bumper, causing her to lurch into oncoming traffic. Ashland let out a scream as a vehicle with the right of way narrowly escaped slamming into her door. Mia heard the crunch of cars hitting each other. She fought to maintain traction, her grip clenching the steering wheel as they spun out of control while fending off the surge of terror whiplashing through her a second time.

“Mrs. Justice, help is on the way.” Her automated security system transmitted to the local enforcement and 911 dispatch. Mia turned to Ashland and lifted a shaky hand to her face. “Baby, are you okay?”

“I-I think so.”

Mia’s heartbeat thundered in her chest. Dazed, she spoke on autopilot.

“Can you move?” Mia unclasped her seatbelt and reached to unlatch her daughter’s. Ashland flinched when she touched her.

“Mama, your head is bleeding and my leg hurts really bad.”

Mia touched her head. Blood slid between her fingers as she explored a small gash on her forehead. “I’m okay love, it’s just a little cut. We need to get out of the vehicle. See if you can move.”

“I can’t, Mama. There’s a car blocking me from moving. I’m stuck.” The panic in her daughter’s voice sent shivers of dread down her spine. They were surrounded by vehicles, crunched in from all sides.

Mia froze, paralyzed by fear. Blood trickled down her face. Her vision was hazed in one eye. Think. You have to stay awake to get Ash out safely. Unbuckling her safety belt, she looked around for something to break the windows with.

“My softball bat is in the trunk, isn’t it?” Her daughter calmed enough to help.

“No baby, we took it out to make room other things a few days ago.” She sucked back a moan of pain while maneuvering into the second row behind her daughter and worked on reclining the seat back. Red lights and the welcoming sound of help arriving eased her fears a little as she continued to work to get her daughter free. Mia leveled the seat out and hefted Ashland by her hips into the second row. When she looked up, flames licked along the windshield. All of the sudden they were stuck in a ticking bomb, each second counting against them.

Voices yelled over the sounds of sirens. Acrid fumes seeped into her vehicle. Instinctively, she knew if they didn’t get free, they’d die from toxic inhalation. She became aware of a shadow as it fell over them. “Get this car moved.” The orders were barked from the man’s lips.

“Ma’am, if there is something to cover your heads with, grab it. There are men working on putting out the fire while we get you out. Stay calm.” Mia watched a flood of foam hit her engine. Beside her, firemen worked to pull the vehicle out of the way. There wasn’t time.

“Ma’am.”

Mia snapped to at the commanding tone in his voice. She found her wool pea coat and placed it over their heads.

“Mama, what’s happening?” The SUV jostled as the car stuck to their door was yanked free. The uniformed man signaled for her attention.

“The firemen are putting out a fire in our engine and they’re going to break the window. I know you’re scared and hurt. Just breathe baby, they’re here to help us and will do everything in their power to get us out.” Deep down, she believed the words with her whole heart. She fought to keep positive, though tears coursed down her cheeks and pain threatened to drag her into the abyss of unconsciousness.

“Mom. Mom. Wake up. Mom, can you hear me. Hurry. Please, my mom isn’t answering me.” The distant sound of glass exploding met her ears. Sound slowed as her eyes drooped, too heavy to keep open. “Take her first.” In her mind her words resounded crystal clear.

“Backboards.”

“My daughter. Get her out.”

“Ma’am, breathe, that’s a girl, now save your strength. We have you both. They’re sliding your daughter out on a board now. She’s free. Backboard two in. I got you now. Lift her easy.” Strong hands hoisted her out of the back section of her smoldering vehicle.

“Whitier here, has some oxygen for you. Armstrong has your baby. She’s a little beat up but okay. Breathe as Whiter places on the mask.”

“Thank you.” Blurred vision kept Mia from making anything but his helmet out. She grasped the hand he held offered. Darkness descended, sucking her into its undertow.

Excerpt 2 R Rated---STEAMY!!
Darkness fell early in the evening. Mia sipped a cup of hot cocoa while waiting. Time had never moved slower than waiting for Dire to show. Maybe she needed a psychologist or some heavier meds of a different type. Who worried about a man they recently met, and without an exact definition of the relationship they were heading in. She grasped his shirt in one hand, wanting to bury her face in his scent. Madness. She’d fallen head over heels into insanity. Tired of pacing and watching out the blinds for a glimpse of his truck, she sat down and flipped the television on. True to her word, she kept away from the news channels. Comedic family shows played on every channel. Not in the mood for comedy, she turned the television off and picked up a historical romance she’d found at a swap and shop months ago, but hadn’t had the time to read. She slipped the robe off and donned his shirt, wanting to feel closer to him in his absence. Using the discarded robe as blanket, she curled up on the couch and disappeared into the pages of her new book.

Lost in the world of thievery, abduction and handsome as sin highlanders, she’d toned out the world until a loud banging on the door scared her out of her wits. She dog-eared the page and tossed off the robe. The incessant pounding grew louder. “What.” She swung the door open ready to rip the balls out of the person who’d made her put down the fantastic book and probably dented her door. “Dire.”

“I rang the bell seven times.” Did he growl at her? And why did she find the sound arousing. Wait…I’m mad at him. She crossed her arms over her breasts and glared at him.

“I’m sorry for scaring you.”

Mia saw red. She clocked him with her open palm across his face, spun on her heel and stormed back into her house.

“Mia. Stop.”

“Go to hell.” She launched her body forward into a sprint up the stairs away from him. Pounding footsteps fell behind her as she heard him chase. Halfway up the stairs, a band of steel wound across her middle, halting her momentum. She kicked back and found her legs trapped by muscles as hard as tree trunks.

“Why are you mad?”

God he smelled good. Even angry with him, his energy singed her. Struggling to break his hold got her nowhere. His breath tickled her neck. His rock hard chest cradled her back.

“You didn’t text or call.”

Dire cussed under his breath. “Because I thought you’d be asleep like we discussed,” he snapped at her and spun her to face him.

She saw the angry welt on his face and dropped her gaze. Dire didn’t deserve her abuse. Ashamed of her actions, she couldn’t look him in the face.

“You should’ve anyhow.”

“I’m okay.” She frowned refusing to give into the two words she’d wanted to hear for hours.

“The team is okay too. Mia. I like to look who I’m talking to in the face.”

“Why are you doing this to me?” She pushed against him to get away and stumbled on the stairs when he let go of her. “Take this back and get out. I can’t do this.” Tears threatened to spill as she tore off his shirt and threw it at him. The T-shirt hit him in the face and fell to the floor. “I wanted to tell you that we should be friends but I can’t now because I’m in too deep.” His stunned expression, the way he held his body rigid while raking a gaze over her body caused her to shiver in reaction and start for her bedroom. “I said to leave,” she repeated when he made no move to.

“Calm down.” Instead of leaving, he followed her.

“Fuck you.”

“That’s mature.” He caught up to her, spun her around, and fisted a hand in her hair keeping her from running further. “Look at me Mia.” Her choice was to squeeze her eyes shut or to do as he bid.

“You had better be glad I’m not tender headed.” She glared at him, uncomfortable with the close proximity of his body so close to hers and her runaway emotions.

“I’m not hurt and you’re okay. Nothing bad happened.” He pressed her against the edge of her bed and dropped an arm to her lower back. Mia almost died when his lips feathered over her skin of her throat. Soft at first, until he worked a path up her neck, swept a finger along her jaw line and nipped to her lips.

Dormant need blazed to life. Mia turned aggressor, wrapping her legs around his waist and planting her lips over his mouth. Tongues tangled. Moaning into his mouth, she found the hem of his shirt and thrust her hands up his chest. Dire helped her take the T-shirt off. God, he is so sexy. To think she’d been totally naked in front of him this whole time left her feeling inhibited.

“Don’t get shy on me now. You looked damn sexy wearing my name.” He bit into the curve of her neck while palming the globes of her ass. His sparse chest hair abraded her sensitive nipples. Wetness drenched her thighs as he laid her down. Dire paused assaulting her mouth to grab a condom out of his pocket. She watched enthralled as he unbuttoned his jeans and shrugged out of them to cover his heavy cock.

Racing on the Edge by Shey Stahl Tour Stop & Giveaway

Review:
There are people who write because they want to share their imagination, people who write as a hobby for something to do, then there are people who write because they were born to, and Shey Stahl is one of those people, she was born to write. She has the capability to take something like NASCAR, something that most women have no interest in and turn it into an incredible story that captivates you from the very beginning and turns your world upside down. I mean, it will take over your whole thought process. Case in point: My Uncle drag races. The other night I was eating with my family and the conversation around the table was about him starting back racing in February. Well, my mind immediately went to Jameson Riley. I had to stop myself several times from blurting out about this series, like it was real. I know, I know... I have never had a book take me over the way this series has. Shey breaks everything down and makes it interesting, I've grown up a NASCAR fan (RIP. Davey Allison and Dale Earnhardt), but since reading this series I now have an appreciation for what it takes to actually be a racecar driver and the sacrifices they make for the sport and their fans. This series is hilarious! The way car mechanics are compared to body parts and sex had me laughing until I cried and the shenanigans that this whole family can get into is ridiculous. Through all the arguing, fighting, drinking, partying, rough patches and DRAMA, they are a family first and I love that! I think I went through every single emotion with these books. I even sent Shey a message telling her, and I quote " U R KILLING ME!!! I'm so mad I'm shaking and I'm so sad my heart hurts". Now that I have read the whole series I am a little sad that it's over. I feel like I know these characters and can relate to them. This is definitely is series that I will read over and over again!
HAPPY HOUR BLURB: Between revving engines, smoking tires, and high speeds, two friends form a vital bond in the shadows of the blaring spotlight. Sway Reins, a track owner’s only daughter, and Jameson Riley, a gritty NASCAR rookie driver, have been best friends since they were kids. Over the years, Sway becomes his safety shield during his rapid rise to the elite levels of auto racing. A night of celebrating a victory leaves Sway believing that she can convince Jameson to fall in love with her. She becomes determined to be more than just a pit lizard trolling the pits. Little does she know that this steadfast racer has his own idea of revelry. Soon their compression ratios are timed exactly right and all the reciprocating motions have led them to happy hour. As their passion revs, the inner workings of an internal combustion engine have never been so erotic. Just a taste turns into a thirst neither of them saw coming. Can she convince this rookie he can have love and his dream?

BLACK FLAG BLURB: When the taste you thought you never needed becomes a thirst you cannot quench, then what?
Jameson Riley, a NASCAR rookie driver, and Sway Reins, his girlfriend, are put to the test. They have love; they have lust, and a bond that proves to be vital. But do they have what it takes to make it through his lifestyle.
When tested, it's either fight, or give in. Two things Jameson has a hard time drawing a line between. Desperate for the series title in his rookie season, Jameson becomes engrossed in the battle between himself and rival driver Darrin Torres. After a horrific crash in Pocono, Darrin attempts to even the score when his warnings do nothing to deter Jameson and his diligent focus on his dream and his family.
Between the blurred lines of love and racing, and the weight of the world on his shoulders, can this racing prodigy achieve what he was born to do?

TRADING PAINT BLURB:Step into the magic where the clay met rubber and desire defined greatness. Trading Paint takes you inside the hasty driver’s mind to what led him to a decision that changed the path of two souls.
Jameson Riley, a dirt track racer from the pacified Northwest attempts to step from the shadows of his legendary World of Outlaw father, Jimi.
Struggling to make his own identity, his best friend becomes a distraction he didn’t see coming. When you’re touted as the next legendary sprint car racer to someone whose mystique alone is intimidating, you tend to lose sight and wonder who you are at times.
He has something to prove and something to learn. Can he surpass greatness?
Warning: This book contains adult content and racing. It may not be for everyone and is completely different from the other books in the series as it contains detailed racing, setups and the mindset of a racer.

THE CHAMPION BLURB:A powerful love story of tragedy, love, and commitment.
The fourth book in the Racing on the Edge series submerges you in the lifestyle of a champion of a sport that dominates America.
Through smoke and methanol, you learn the good, the bad, and the secrets no one wants you to know.
Jameson Riley, a NASCAR Cup series champion, has created a life for himself and his expanding family but is it what he thought it would be? He's had to overcome his own personal aggression and move through his career from the rookie he was to be the champion he is.
In a sport where you are allowed one angle, one image and everything you say and do, on or off the track, must fit in that angle, it's hard to know how to be the champion they want. He once again, has to draw a line between love and racing.
Through shuffling cars and heaving exhaust, shadows lurk in every turn and threaten Jameson's victory in his race for himself while Sway, his new wife, through her own battles within the spotlight, keeps their pit stand strong and ready for anything this life might throw at them.
The Champion captures the essence of racing and what it means to be a champion on and off the track. Giving you a vivid and affectionate portrait of the characters that became a window net for this hasty driver, follow along as Jameson and his family reflect on their life on the road, in the spotlight, and on the track.

THE LEGEND:In a lifestyle of speed adrenaline and desire, one racer has sacrificed everything for the sport he loved.
He will fight for his name, his family and now his life to be the legend he’s been portrayed to be.
But what happens when you’re standing on the edge of disaster and none of that matters anymore?
Jameson Riley, a racer whose effect on the sport is greater than any statistical contribution, has that talent and the family dedicated to get him to those legendary levels he has always dreamed of. Just like any long race, their lives have fallen into a comfortable pace making pit stops and adjustments along the way, they remain in line with the occasional shuffle. Through it all, Jameson is a driver with a numbing reputation, an imperial manner and the clout to back it. He’s been challenged on and off the track for the last eighteen years but life is changing for this family.
That’s when tragedy surfaces. A malicious act of revenge will decide the fate of the champion everyone has watched grow from the local dirt track racer to the mystifying greatness he became. One family is forced to look for a miracle. They question the sport, relationships, and the only lifestyle they’ve ever known.
When your life is measured in laps, what happens when the white flag is thrown?

Check out our playlist for the series and the reading order.
